What you need to be admitted to the online Accelerated BSN program

We’ve simplified the admission process to help you get started quickly and easily. You can find all requirements for admission to the Avila online Accelerated BSN below.

Admission Requirements:

  • 60 transferable credits with a minimum 2.8 GPA
  • Completion of prerequisite courses with a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Meet core general education requirements

Our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is designed for individuals who have 60 or more prior college credits, an associate degree, or a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing from a regionally accredited college or university (or an international equivalent).

All qualified applicants will receive a personalized degree completion plan and, depending on their previous coursework, may be offered full admission to the School of Nursing or may begin their Avila journey by completing the foundational courses required for full admission.

To qualify for full admission, you must meet the following requirements:

  • 60 transferable credits with at least a 2.8 GPA
  • Completion of these prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA of 2.5:
    • Anatomy and Physiology I
    • Anatomy and Physiology II
    • Chemistry
    • Microbiology
    • Statistics
    • Developmental Psychology
    • Pathophysiology
  • Meet core general education requirements
    • Applicants who have earned an associate or bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university will have fulfilled all general education requirements
    • Applicants who have yet to complete all general education credits can take these classes in an online accelerated format and will work with an academic advisor to complete a personalized degree completion plan
  • TEAS score of 70%

Students admitted must also meet the following requirements to participate in nursing clinical courses:

  • Meet immunization and health screening requirements
  • Complete a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Hold a current certification in a basic cardiac life support (BCLS) healthcare provider course
  • Submit annual tuberculosis (TB) skin test results
  • Carry your own health insurance coverage and provide a health insurance form reflecting the company and coverage to be kept on file in the Avila School of Nursing office
